- first conditional
- second conditional

ZERO CONDITIONAL

Usato per parlare di verità generali - cose che accadono sempre a certe condizioni. Si usa per parlare di cose che sono sempre vere - fatti scientifici, verità generali, ecc:

Struttura == > if + soggetto + simple present , soggetto + simple present

Es. If you heat water to 100 degrees, it boils.
Es. If you cross an international date line, the time changes.
Es. If you go 10 meters under water, the pressure increases to two atmospheres.
Es. Phosphorus burns if you expose it to air.

FIRST CONDITIONAL

Usato per parlare di possibilità al presente o al futuro. Usato per parlare di cose che sono possibili al presente o al futuro - cose che possono accadere.

Struttura = > if + soggetto + presente semplice , soggetto + will + forma base.

Es. If you study hard, you will pass the test.
Es. If it's sunny, we'll go to the park.
Es. Paula will be sad if Juan leaves.
Es. If you cook the supper, I'll wash the dishes.

SECOND CONDITIONAL

Usato per parlare di situazioni non reali, immaginarie, al presente e al futuro.

Struttura == > if + soggetto + simple past , soggetto + would + forma base. Si usa per parlare di cose che non sono reali (non vere o non possibili) al presente o al futuro - cose che non accadono o non accadranno.

Es. If I had a million dollars, I would buy a big house.
Es. If I were you, I would drive more carefully in the rain.
Es. Paula would be sad if Jan left.
Es. If dogs had wings, they would be able to fly.

==== > Nota che questo simple past è leggermente diverso dal solito nel caso del verbo BE. Qualsiasi sia il soggetto, la forma del verbo è were, non was: IF I WERE rich, I'd buy a big house.

THIRD CONDITIONAL

Usato per parlare di situazioni non reali al passato. Si usa per parlare di cose che non sono accadute al passato. Viene spesso usata per esprimere una critica o un rimpianto.

Struttura == > if + soggetto + past perfect , soggetto + would (o could, o might) have + participio passato

Es. if I had studied harder, I probably would have passed the exam.
Es. If you had driven more carefully, you would not have had an accident.
Es. If we had played a little better, we could have won the game.
Es. If you had saved your money, you could have bought a computer.
Es. If it had snowed, we could have gone skiing.
